Benny Goes Live

Today was the day that Benny went live on his new insulin pump. We're really excited about this, and we're hoping that it leads to much better management of his diabetes. The pump/meter combination has some really neat features that should lead to better control of his numbers. We took some photos to commemorate the event. Ben had to initial items on a contract saying he would use the pump responsibly. His doctor is also shown making some adjustments, and I snapped a photo of Lindy setting the pump for a bolus when Ben had a snack. A snack and no shot. Whoohoo!

One downside of this new development is that we will need to check his blood sugar at 2am for the next week or so. That's a drag, but we've been through it before. We'll be sure to post updates often as we get more experience with the pump.

How it all began...

Since beginning my fundraising for the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, many people have asked us how we discovered that Ben has Type 1 diabetes. Well, here is the story of what transpired over the course of a few days in June, 2006.
